Three days before leaving the Philippines, the UP Filipiniana Alumni Dance Troupe showcased their world-class performance at the annual UP Pep Rally, held Monday at the College of Human Kinetics gym.
The dance troupe awed the crowd with their nonstop cultural show, which extended from a tribal dance up to the more popular Tinikling.
Other UP varsity teams also got the chance to perform in front of the UP community, as the Pep Rally also served as a sendoff to players for the 76th season of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
The UP Pep Drummers fired up the opening act, followed by a presentation from the Men’s Swimming Team, who danced to the tune of pop song ‘Gentleman’ wearing nothing but their swimming trunks.
The Street Dance, Football, Softball/Baseball, Filipiniana, Volleyball, Badminton, Dance Sport and Taekwondo teams also brought their talents to the floor, much to the crowd’s delight.
The UP Pep Squad also performed a repeat of last season’s championship performance, which won them their third consecutive UAAP Cheerdance Competition championship trophy.
The cultural show, which lasted for an hour, gained a standing ovation during their final act.
The UP Filipiniana Alumni Dance Troupe will depart to France on Thursday to participate in an international dance festival, while the UAAP season for the varsity teams opens Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
